Planning application submitted for development of 205 houses in Edinburgh city center

HUB and Bridges Fund Management have submitted plans for a 205 rental home development on Beaverhill Road in Edinburgh.

This will include 52 affordable housing units, as well as a workspace co-designed with residents, a new publicly accessible courtyard and a large mural on one of the exterior walls.

The proposals replace an existing warehouse building, using a brownfield town center site.

The plans would exceed current Scottish sustainability regulations, including a communal air-source heat pump and a biodiverse green roof.

Designed by shedkm architects, the project was developed in conjunction with the local community and current businesses, with the ground floor workspace being co-designed by existing tenants.

It is located in Canonmills, just north of Edinburgh New Town.

Tom Valente, Head of Development at HUB, said: “We were struck by the vibrancy of the creative community in the region and knew immediately that we wanted to maintain it by putting studios and creative spaces at the heart of development.

“The mix of build-to-let and creative workspace is one that we know works wonders in terms of promoting a sense of community and creating places where people choose to live.”
