New interactive website helps travelers manage flight cancellations

With Labor Day approaching and the inevitable increase in travel that comes with it, anyone planning to fly is probably already preparing to deal with delays, cancellations and snafus. The Department for Transport, which has previously blamed airlines for delaying refunds, is rolling out a new website to help travelers stay informed.

The website will launch on September 2, according to Travel + Leisure, just in time for Labor Day weekend trips. A tweet from the DOT clarifies that the website “will allow consumers to compare airline customer service offerings, such as food or hotel, in one place when the cause of a cancellation or delay is due to circumstances under the control of an airline”.

The website dashboard will come from information that airlines have already committed to in customer service plans. You’ll be able to see what you’re entitled to from various airlines, all in one place.

“When passengers experience cancellations and delays, they deserve clear and transparent information about the services your airline will provide, to deal with the expense and inconvenience resulting from these disruptions,” DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg wrote. , in a letter shared by Travel + Leisure. Buttigieg went on to note that “the level of disruption Americans have experienced this summer is unacceptable.”

With at least 124,000 flights already canceled in 2022, surpassing the total number of flights canceled in 2019, it has been a tough year for travel. Airline staffing shortages have affected pilots, airport security, baggage handlers, customer service agents, and more. And if you didn’t have a canceled flight, you probably experienced at least one flight delay. With this new website, you will at least be able to understand how you can be compensated for all the hassle.
