The Transportation Security Administration has lowered the price of TSA PreCheck from $85 to $78. That’s good news for travelers who want to speed through security without having to take off their shoes and laptops, but have been put off by the $85 price tag.
But perhaps the price drop isn’t all that surprising, given the recent TSA price drop. In late September 2021, the TSA reduced its online renewal fee by $15 from $85 to $70 (although $85 was left to renew in person). Now it costs $78 to renew in person, matching the recently reduced initial application fee (though you can still pay just $70 renewing online).
Once approved for TSA PreCheck, eligibility lasts for five years.
