Interactive maps highlight amenities in a new Cambridge loop mapped out for cyclists
With cycling season just weeks away, the Grand Watershed Trails Network has launched a new website to inspire cyclists to explore on foot or on two wheels the largest watershed in southwestern Ontario.
Launching on March 4, the new site features interactive maps and guides highlighting amenities such as restaurants, hotels, campgrounds and activities along a suggested trail network, beginning at the upper reaches of the Grand River at Dundalk and ending at Lake Erie.
A map for the Cambridge section adds a new loop of Cambridge with improved interactivity and links designed to “connect people to the river and its heritage, cultural and outdoor experiences”, said Anne Crowe, chair of the Greater Watershed Trails Network.
The trail connections suggested on the site attempt to bridge the gaps in the network between the Kissing Bridge Trail and the Guelph Trail at Goderich in West Montrose, and the Cambridge Rail Trail in Paris.
It follows the Trans Canada Trail to get there via Cambridge.
Crowe told Cambridge Council this week that he hopes the new site will “become the new stop if you’re coming to Waterloo Region, whether you’re a local…or coming from the other side of the world”.
“We want to be the one-stop-shop for all the information you might need to come to Grand River and enjoy the trails,” she said.
