Mac and Ogallala lakes enter second reservation requirement season • Nebraskaland Magazine

The Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala State Recreation Areas enter their second high season from May 20 to September 11, when reservations are required for all campsites, including beach sites.

Campers must make reservations at both state recreation areas before leaving home. Reservations can be made online at NebraskaStateParks.ReserveAmerica.com, through the RA Camping mobile app, or by phone at 308-284-8800 during business hours.

“Last year, guests said they were able to enjoy family camping experiences and days at the beach, while patronizing local businesses that support tourism on the lakes,” said Jim Swenson, Nebraska’s assistant manager. Game and Parks. “We look forward to repeating last year’s great season.”

Designated campsites can be reserved 180 days prior to arrival date, and beach campsites can be reserved 30 days prior to arrival date. There are approximately 500 campsites and 1,000 designated beach sites (depending on water level) available at the state’s two recreation areas.

Same-day reservations can be made online or by phone until 5 p.m. mountain time, if venues remain available. Once capacity is reached, no additional overnight camping will be permitted; for other accommodation options, including private campgrounds, hotels, or cabins, visit ILoveLakeMac.com.

Campers must arrive and check in with park staff, in person, at the Visitor Center or at a staffed entry kiosk between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Mountain Time. Registered campers will receive an email with more details regarding their reservation prior to arrival.

A park entry permit is required for each vehicle entering each SRA. For faster entry to park areas, visitors are encouraged to purchase one in advance online at OutdoorNebraska.org or from a permit vendor; find a local vendor at OutdoorNebraska.org/PermitVendors.
