LEDS C4 lights up the Llum BCN 2022 festival • Hotel Designs

Lum BCN 2022 festival in Barcelona is all about lighting up the streets with personality. For this year’s event, LED C4 took charge of the signage project by contributing to two art installations: the “Treequency” project, the work of a group of students from the IED design school in Barcelona, and the OracLED art installation by BeatMe Lab, who participates in the alternative circuit Off Llum, combining video mapping and pixel mapping to recreate scenes straight out of a dream.

Llum BCN 2022 is a vast laboratory filled with nightscapes that house a wide range of artistic disciplines, placing it among some of the best light art events in the world, such as those in Eindhoven, Prague and Lyon.

The signage project is made up of 19 large light sculptures which are strategically placed in the Poblenou district of Barcelona, one of the most dynamic and vibrant areas of the city and the perfect setting for the Festival of Light Arts.

The main design element of each signage sculpture was a circle: a simple expression that symbolizes the concept of a place, a meeting point. The rings with integrated LED strips were designed by the special projects department of LEDS C4. They are all 1.5 meters in diameter and are installed on minimalist structures at a height of three meters.

Each ring was illuminated in one of three easily recognizable base colors: red, blue, or yellow. Each color represented the different parts of the festival: festival locations (red), schools (blue) and external collaborations with the festival (yellow).
