AH-HA! That might make sense if you’re already familiar with the comedy character Alan Patridge who is the guest announcer for Saturday Night Takeaway on April 2. However, if you’re reading this, it means you’re not up to speed with the guy – who isn’t a real person by the way, but a comic creation of comedian, writer, actor and impressionist extraordinaire, Steve Coogan .
Steve created Alan Partridge in the 1990s and he first appeared on radio before making his television debut on the iconic parody news show, The Day Today, before getting his own talk show. parody cat, Knowing Me, Knowing You in 1994. Then, in 1997, Steve took Alan’s comedic profile up a notch with I’m Alan Partridge, written by Coogan, Armando Iannucci and Welsh writer Peter Baynham. The fly-on-the-wall documentary followed Alan as he lived in a motorway hotel and ran the graveyard shift on a Norwich radio. The sitcom ran for two series with the second airing in 2002. The role won Coogan a Bafta four times and after a hiatus of almost a decade, apart from a few brief performances here and there, Coogan reprized the character of Mid Morning Matters With. Alan Partiridge, the 2013 film, Alpha Papa and the latest, This Time With Alan Partridge.

Coogan has had great success away from the beloved and incompetent person that is Alan Partridge, with other characters Paul and Pauline Calf and acting roles in Philomena, Saxondale, Stephen and he is set to star. to be seen as Jimmy Savile in a real-life drama about predatory pedophile and prolific sex offender, The Reckoning. Coogan is also known for his appearances opposite Rob Brydon on The Trip.
