Convention Center has a new website and a new visitor guide | Local

ELKO – Elko Convention and Visitors Authority staff have been busy promoting the community and all it has to offer. They recently unveiled a new website, exploreelko.com, and released this year’s visitor guide.

“The new website was launched last month,” said Tom Lester, director of tourism and conventions for the Elko Convention Center.

“There’s a lot of new information out there,” he said. “One of the biggest issues we had with the old website was that it wasn’t mobile-friendly.”

Lester said the new website enables data tracking that will help the convention center manage marketing and other aspects of the business.

“Your website should be front and center,” Lester said. “It has to be attractive where people want to stay and really get through it. You want to keep them there as long as you can to entice them to stay or come to Elko.

He described the meetings and events page of the site.

“One of the features allows the community to add an event, which is up to our marketing team. We’ll review the event to make sure it’s legitimate, then add it to our calendar. We want to make sure that people are aware of what is happening in the community.

Noble Studios designed the website. They also designed the websites for Lake Tahoe, Reno Sparks Convention Center and Travel Nevada. Lester said they know the “Nevada product” very well.

“They came and visited the site and took pictures,” he said.

Lester talked about the many attractions available at Elko, including the arts, the Lamoille Canyon, and the restaurant scene.

“International tour operators need to know what we have to offer,” he said. “People need to be informed”

Lester said things have changed since Covid, and the outdoors is the “latest and greatest new thing”.

The new visitor guide, “Explore Elko”, has just come out of the press.

“A lot of visitor guides will be taken to consumer fairs,” he said. “We do a lot of shows along Interstate 80.”

“Now you have to understand that people are looking for places closer to home with gas prices. Elko is not that far away. It’s a three-hour drive from Salt Lake City.

“The visitor’s guide contains a lot of information,” Lester said. “There are some great stories in there. It also offers day trip itineraries, as well as information on accommodations, parks and camps, and all things to see. There is also an art section in there.

Lester said the guide will visit all visitor centers along I-80 and throughout the state, and will be installed in local hotels.

“We’re also having a lot more events this year so people can get that information.”

The guide includes a detailed map of the area.

The first run printed 10,000 guides.

“Elko may not be ‘the destination,’ but we are part of the experience along the way,” Lester said. “If we can get them back for a few nights along the way, then we’ve done our job. We are an oasis and a breath of fresh air.
