19. Despite early pressure from executives and the level of gore in the film, Craven kept the mood light and fun on set.
“Wes said to me, ‘When you’re doing a horror movie, the experience doesn’t have to be horrible,'” Kennedy said. THR. “That’s one of the greatest quotes I’ve ever heard. We made this crazy movie, but we drank wine at night and had these civilized dinners. Towards the end of filming, I was getting really sad the movie ended and I started crying. Courteney was like, ‘Oh, honey. Don’t cry. That’s how it is. It’s summer camp.’ I say to myself, ‘But this is my life.’ She said, “No, honey. It’s only your life for three months, but we all have a bond we’ll never forget.”
20. Filming on location in North Carolina, the actors all stayed at the same hotel and hung out together, often in Arquette’s bedroom, which had lava lamps and black-light posters.
“David is crazy, so he bought every possible toy you can buy in Santa Rosa, and they were hanging from his ceiling,” Campbell told The Ringer. “I think it was called ‘David’s Bar’ or ‘David’s Club’ or something like that. ‘Club David’.”
21. Still, the housekeeping staff weren’t thrilled that the actors were staying at the hotel. “The cleaners at the hotel hated us, or hated me, that’s for sure, because we damaged a lot of sheets and pillowcases,” Ulrich recalls. “It doesn’t matter how much you scrubbed. I didn’t know the shaving cream trick back then, that it takes [blood] quite easily. But there’s always residue and it always ends up on your pillowcase or your sheets.”
